Keeping Them Singers Singing Everywhere
We have successfully completed the “Keep them Singers Singing” (#KTSS) project funded by Wales for Africa and the Peter Stebbings Memorial Charity, but the project will now be extended to Tanga Region, generously funded by The Morrell Trust. The project’s aim is to train experts to keep all the sewing machines we’ve sent in the past singing sweetly!
Tanga is a port city north of Dar es Salaam and is a long way from our base in Mwanza. We have supported the region for many years in partnership with SIDO (Small Industries Development Organisation). Technical Officer Dickson Shenkalwa has retired but will continue to work with us on the project now renamed –
“Keep Them Tanga Singers Singing”
We are very happy to announce that in June of this year our #KTTSS project will see Dickson and SIDO Tanga training eight Fundis (experts) in the maintenance and repair of sewing machines. This pilot course will run for nine days at the SIDO training centre with full accommodation for the trainees.
Today we have confirmed all the details with Mr. Liberath Macha, Regional Manager of SIDO; we’ve confirmed the contract details with Dickson and he will start gathering the right men and women from the various tailoring groups to train.
Our Tanzanian Patron, Mr. Mike Laiser (Retired SIDO Director General) supports three women’s tailoring groups in Arusha (some 450 kms away) and will be sending a trainee as well. It’s wonderful to be able to provide so much support to this region again.
