Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fix sewing machines and he’ll set up his own school! This report received from Michael Kimaryo, our project officer in Mwanza is a wonderful justification for our project. Sharing knowledge and providing tools pays off and here is a look at one way we succeed.

Mwalimu (teacher) Zakaria was one of the trained fundis for sewing machines repair and maintenance. He used to be a primary school teacher in one of primary schools in Mwanza town.

An interesting thing with Zakaria is after receiving the offer of some un-refurbished sewing machines from TFSR Cymru  upon completion of training,  he did not just repair and sell them, he initiated the establishment of a small ‘training centre’ at his place and began to enrol trainees. The PO visited him and found him busy instructing his students, most of them from the same locality. Some video clips showing Zakaria in the session are attached together with this report. More visits to him will be organized to assess his current needs and then recommend how he will be supported more by the project in future
